The Florida Learjet crash

What happened. On 1 November 2026, a Learjet 60 flying from Austin to North Eleuthera, Bahamas, crashed near Greenacres, Florida, at about 12:50 p.m. local time. All nine aboard died, including Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp and their two children. [2] ↗ [3] ↗ [4] ↗

What investigators found. The crew reported turbulence and icing before a rapid descent. Investigators found pieces of the elevator, the tail surface that controls pitch, more than a mile from the impact site. That indicates some parts separated before impact. [5] ↗ [6] ↗

Open questions. Investigators are examining weather, the flight path and the wreckage. Former NTSB investigator Jeff Guzzetti raised two possibilities: tail parts could have separated during turbulence or during the dive. The sequence matters. As of 5 November, the NTSB had not determined a probable cause. [6] ↗ [2] ↗

Evidence, in pictures

The bets, detours & strange details

Lehman → Barclays

Credit derivatives before customer data

Robinson traded credit default swaps before becoming a software founder. His official biography identifies Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital as his former employers. [1] ↗

17 months → 27 weeks → 16 weeks

Three routes to the first million

Robly used cold calls, GetEmails used Facebook demos, and RB2B used a founder audience. His February 2025 comparison puts the teams at 25, six and five respectively when each reached $1m ARR. [21] ↗

RoblyID → GetEmails

A feature customers exported into Klaviyo

The identity feature attracted users who exported the records into another email platform. Robinson separated it into GetEmails, financed from Robly cash flow; it later became Retention.com. [22] ↗

39 people

The apartment became a call centre

In his 2020 interview, Robinson recalled a 39-person sales operation in his apartment. A replacement prospect list failed and he cut the team. [16] ↗

92k LinkedIn followers

The audience was in the wrong market

In his SaaS Club interview he describes a year of posting before finding the right audience. E-commerce buyers were a poor fit for LinkedIn; public accounts of layoffs and the pivot to B2B made the channel useful. [20] ↗

$27 / month

A new use for an existing data asset

MoltSets launched as an API-focused contact-data business. Robinson’s June 2026 pitch says it reuses a data team and asset already serving other business lines, with more than 3,000 people on the waitlist. [23] ↗

Failures, disputes & the other side

40% headcount cut

A smaller Retention team after the plateau

His 2024 review reports a June reduction of 40% at Retention. The addressable store market was smaller than expected and competitors arrived faster; moving upmarket became the response. [10] ↗

$300k cost

The partner strategy that ended in a lawsuit

In 2020 Robinson said recruiting a competitor’s former employee during a non-compete triggered litigation, costing about $300k. This is his account; the interview does not establish a judicial finding against either party. [16] ↗

Sales team cut ~75%

The unicorn push went backwards

Robinson told SaaS Club that the 2023 expansion failed and his VP of sales quit. He reduced the sales team rather than continuing the attempted venture-style growth. [20] ↗

20% monthly plan churn

Visitors were sold as leads

His 2024 review admits promising demos from website visitors. He reports 20% monthly churn on the $119 plan and complaints from customers who had closed no deals after six months. He says the workflow needed a redesign. [10] ↗

5 → 3 FTE

The June 2025 reset

At $5.4m ARR, Robinson reduced RB2B’s team. He identified filtering, routing and deciding what to do next as unresolved product problems; the hoped-for enterprise sales motion had not worked. [13] ↗

No backup

A code deletion just before the exit

A September 2026 post recalls an engineer deleting the codebase two weeks before a planned $10m wire in March 2021. The short public post does not establish how recovery worked. His earlier retrospective dates the Robly sale to 2020; the accounts differ. [7] ↗

~20% of cases

MoltSets users found stale job profiles

In the September 2026 beta report, Robinson acknowledges outdated roles paired with validated emails. He describes a vendor-consensus fix as a plan, not a proven result. He also reports a parsing bug that matched and charged for the wrong profile, subsequently fixed. [15] ↗

$27 entry plan

“Unlimited” met rate limits

In September 2026 Robinson acknowledged complaints about confusing, restrictive rate limits. He defended the model while describing potential simplification. Unlimited data access did not mean unlimited simultaneous throughput. [24] ↗

1 FTE claim

The one-person headline has a wider company behind it

Robinson’s October 2026 X post calls RB2B a $10m ARR business with one FTE. RB2B is also a Retention.com product using its identity engine; the count should not be read as the entire group’s staffing or data infrastructure. [8] ↗

3,242 contacts alleged

A competitor alleged CRM-data harvesting

Customers.ai founder Larry Kim amplified a customer claim that RB2B downloaded 3,242 CRM contacts, arguing the data use was unclear. This is a competitor’s allegation, not an established finding; no direct response was recovered in this source. [25] ↗

US persons; global companies

What the company says about identification

RB2B describes person identification as US-only and company identification as global. It says its identity network is permissioned and publishes opt-outs. That company position does not by itself resolve the CRM-data allegation. [26] ↗

23,323 requests in 2025

Data-removal requests are part of the business

RB2B’s privacy policy reports complying with all 23,323 consumer requests received in 2025, denying none, with a one-day mean and median response. These are the company’s own disclosed statistics. [27] ↗
